Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. was born December 28, 1954 in Mount Vernon, New York to the parents of Denzel Washington Sr. and Lynne Washington. His father was a Pentecostal minister and his mother was a beautician and a former gospel singer. Denzel was the middle child of three. His older sister Lorice and younger brother David. However Denzel was very unhappy with his looks. As a child Denzel was always a problem child. But he was very serious child. Being brought up in very sociable surroundings, of course he would be serious. When he was 14, his parents divorced, and he and his older sister were sent away to boarding school so that they would not be exposed to their parents' eventual divorce. When Denzel graduated from highschool, he enrolled at Fordham University, where he attained a B.A. in Journalism in 1977. But he still found time to pursue his interest in acting, however, and after he graduated he moved to San Francisco, where he won a scholarship to the American Conservatory Theatre. He than stayed with ACT for a year. Denzel first movie was Wilma that debuted in 1977. Denzel has starred in numerous movies including the #1 hit of 2007: American Gangster. Denzel Washington has been voted as America’s favorite movie star of 2007. Denzel has played in a total of 54 movies including his newest one, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3, which will be debuted in 2009.
